Pirastro Evah Pirazzi Gold 323221 is a professional individual D string for 4/4 viola, featuring a flexible steel rope core with chrome-steel winding. With medium tension of 6.9 kg, it forms part of the all-metal-core Evah Pirazzi Gold Steel set 323021.
Sound and construction
The D string occupies an important position in the viola's tonal range, connecting the brighter A-string register with the deeper G and C strings. Its construction affects string transitions, articulation and the feeling of bow resistance.
Article 323221 uses a multi-wire steel rope core rather than a single solid steel wire. This construction combines flexibility with dimensional stability and is designed for direct bow response. The chrome-steel winding provides good wear and corrosion resistance under normal playing conditions.
As part of the Evah Pirazzi Gold Steel range, the string is intended to deliver a powerful, expressive sound with strong projection and quick response. Actual tonal characteristics depend on the instrument, its setup and the musician's technique.
323221 vs 425221 — which D string?
323221: steel rope core, chrome-steel winding, tension 6.9 kg. Included in the all-metal-core set 323021.
425221: synthetic core, silver winding, tension 6.0 kg. Included in sets 425021 and 425091.
Set compatibility
String 323221 is the original D string supplied in the Pirastro Evah Pirazzi Gold Steel 323021 set. All four strings in this set have metal cores: steel A, chrome-steel-wound rope-core D and G, and tungsten-wound rope-core C.
It may also be considered as an individual alternative to a synthetic-core D string when adjusting an instrument's response. Differences in tension and construction should be taken into account when mixing strings.

Installation and care
Ensure the string sits correctly in the nut and bridge grooves. Bring it gradually up to pitch while monitoring the bridge position. After each playing session, remove rosin dust with a soft, dry cloth.
Please note: this product contains one individual viola D string, not a complete set or a violin D string. The synthetic-core Evah Pirazzi Gold alternative has article number 425221.
