GEWA "Georg Walther" Concert Cello — European Poplar, Made in Germany

The GEWA Georg Walther cello is the flagship of the German master workshops, reserved for instruments of the highest class. This specific version features a back and sides made from hand-selected European Poplar, a tonewood prized for its ability to produce a deep, warm, and dark tone reminiscent of historical Italian master instruments. Handcrafted under the guidance of Thomas Böhme, this cello is a true masterpiece of acoustic engineering.

To ensure a professional performance from the first note, the instrument comes in a ready-to-play setup featuring a premium Larsen string mix recommended by Dr. Thomas Zwieg. The Magnacore Arioso C and G strings provide massive resonance, while the Original Medium A and D strings ensure brilliant clarity in the higher register.

Key Features:

  • Origin: Entirely handcrafted in GEWA music master workshops (Germany).
  • Design: Conceived by master luthier Thomas Böhme.
  • Tonewoods: Solid European Poplar back/sides; acoustically worked European Spruce top.
  • Varnish: Gold-brown transparent natural resin varnish with antique imitation.
  • Strings (Professional Setup): C/G — Larsen Magnacore Arioso; D/A — Larsen Original Medium.
  • Hardware: ULSA endpin (black burnished), Wittner tailpiece with rosewood look.
  • Fittings: High-grade Ebony fingerboard and pegs.
  • Performance: Exceptional dynamic range with a rich, complex tonal profile.
