Natural Sturgeon Bladder Glue (Sticks/Strips) — 100g
Sturgeon bladder glue (Isinglass, Hausenblasenleim) is a premium, traditional natural adhesive of the highest quality, made from sturgeon swim bladders. This specific version is processed into a convenient, compact stick (strip) form. This shape takes up much less space during storage and transport while yielding the exact same premium quality, exceptional bond strength, and 100% reversibility as the raw bladders.
It is universally recognized as the finest glue in lutherie for building and repairing stringed instruments, as well as in professional antique restoration. It provides a highly elastic bond, does not creep over time, and is acoustically transparent, ensuring it never dampens the wood's natural resonance.
Product Specifications:
- Material: 100% natural sturgeon swim bladders.
- Form: Dense translucent sticks/strips.
- Weight: 100 grams.
- Features: Space-saving form; requires a slightly longer soaking time due to its density.
Preparation and Usage Guide:
- Soaking: Place the desired amount of glue sticks into a glass container and cover with cold distilled water. Please note: Because these sticks are denser, they require slightly more time to soften than raw flakes, taking up to 24–48 hours to become completely jelly-like.
- Draining: Pour off any excess water (the glue will have absorbed the right amount of moisture).
- Heating: Melt the swollen glue gently in a double boiler (bain-marie) at a temperature of around 60°C (140°F), stirring continuously until it forms a smooth liquid. WARNING: Never allow the glue to boil! Heating it above 70°C (158°F) will destroy the protein chains, permanently ruining its bonding strength.
- Straining: If necessary, strain the warm liquid glue through a fine mesh sieve.
- Application: Apply the glue while warm. Unused prepared glue can be cooled to a gel and stored in the refrigerator for a few days; simply reheat in a water bath before use.
