J. Meinlschmidt JM005 Slide Oil 5 – Synthetic is a synthetic lubricant for brass instrument tuning slides. It combines smooth slide movement with effective sealing and is particularly suitable for freely moving slides used for pitch adjustment while playing.
Features and benefits
- Supports smooth, effortless tuning-slide movement.
- Helps maintain an effective seal between sliding surfaces.
- Dampens vibrations and rattling in worn linkage joints.
- Protects metal components against wear and corrosion.
- Odourless formulation.
Instrument compatibility
JM005 can be used on movable tuning slides in trumpets, cornets, flugelhorns, French horns, euphoniums and other brass instruments. It is especially useful for slides operated during performance to adjust pitch.
The oil can also reduce vibration in worn linkage joints. However, lubrication cannot reverse mechanical wear or replace necessary repairs.
JM005, JM007 or JM008?
JM005 Slide Oil is particularly suitable for slides requiring easy movement. JM007 Slide Gel and JM008 Slide Grease have thicker consistencies and are intended for conventional tuning slides where lasting lubrication and sealing are priorities.

Application and maintenance
Clean accessible slide surfaces to remove dirt and old lubricant. Apply a small amount of JM005, move the slide gently several times and wipe away any excess. An optional needle applicator can help with precise oiling.
Important: JM005 is intended for slides and selected mechanical joints, not for direct lubrication of piston or rotary valves. Use the appropriate Meinlschmidt valve oil instead. Excessive play or sticking should be assessed by a repair technician.
