Légère Reeds

Cane is a unique material—lightweight, yet very stiff along the grain. That combination is what makes it vibrate so well. Reproducing those properties in a synthetic material isn't easy—but it’s exactly what the company has done.

Légèere reeds are made from a special formulation of polypropylene—a non-toxic, food-safe polymer you’ll also find in medical equipment, yogurt cups, and packaging. On its own, polypropylene is far too flexible for a reed. So the company strengthens it through a process called orientation, which aligns the polymer fibers to dramatically increase stiffness. That’s the secret to the signature feel and response of a Légèere reed.

Because the Légèere material doesn’t absorb moisture, the reeds don’t need soaking, never warp, and are ready to play right out of the case. They’re durable, hygienic, and can be cleaned easily with warm water and a mild detergent. It’s cane—refined.

European Scrape Oboe Reed

Légèere European Scrape oboe reeds respond instantly and are ready to play straight from the box. The design allows for a warm, centered sound with ease of projection. They never need to be moistened and are available in three strengths: Medium-Soft, Medium, and Medium-Hard.
All reeds are made to an initial aperture between 0.68–0.72 mm, but this will change after the reed is played. The total length of the reed is 69.8–70.2 mm, and it plays at 440–442 Hz depending on the positioning in the reed well. They never need to be soaked and are unaffected by any weather or humidity.
While students should start with Medium-Soft or Medium strengths, advanced players may find any of the three strengths suitable for their embouchure.
