A unique anthology featuring 148 instruments by the great Italian luthier Antonio Stradivari, brought together in a single collection. For the first time in history, all these unique instruments have been gathered and photographed using the highest quality professional photographic equipment. The instruments in the photographs are displayed at full size, including the cellos. Each of the 148 instruments is accompanied by a captivating story of its history and characteristics, along with materials from world-renowned experts on Stradivari family instruments from the UK and Italy. The set consists of 4 volumes. It includes both famous instruments and those whose information was difficult to find in standard sources. The editors gained access to the rarest instruments, some of which had never been accessible to anyone but their owners.
This extraordinary project was realized by the editor Jost Thöne and his co-editor and photographer Jan Röhrmann. Serving as expert and consultant was perhaps the most authoritative specialist in string instruments, Florian Leonhard. Most modern certificates of authenticity for Stradivari family instruments bear his signature. The texts were written by the remarkable Italian art historian Alessandra Barabaschi.
The anthology is published in a limited edition: 2,000 copies of the Library version and 100 copies of the Deluxe version. Each copy of the gift set is uniquely numbered.
Every instrument in the collection is presented in its true size—even the cellos—so that the finest details can be examined. High-quality paper and a special coating protect the materials from aging. Each instrument has its own story; based on documents and professional essays by experts, author Alessandra Barabaschi has compiled fascinating descriptions with a focus on the unique characteristics of each piece.
