Thomastik-Infeld DOMINANT PRO DP22 is a professional D string for 4/4 viola, featuring a synthetic core with chrome-steel winding. It is included in the DOMINANT PRO DP200 set and offers fast bow response, expressive tonal colours and strong projection.
Sound and playing characteristics
The D string plays an essential role in the overall tonal balance of a viola. It connects the brighter A string with the richer, deeper sound of the G string. Thomastik-Infeld paid particular attention to this transition when developing DP22.
The manufacturer describes its character as a combination of a dark tonal foundation, pronounced brilliance and strong carrying power. Its sound retains the distinctive middle-register, mezzo-soprano qualities associated with the viola.
DP22 responds quickly to bow movement and allows sensitive control of dynamics, making it suitable for lyrical phrases, active articulation and transitions between strings. Actual tonal results depend on the instrument and its setup.
What makes DP22 special? It is designed to blend with the steel-core A string DP21 and create a smooth transition towards synthetic-core G string DP23, contributing to the consistent tonal character of the DOMINANT PRO set.

Selection, installation and care
DP22 is the individual replacement D string for the DOMINANT PRO DP200 set. It may also be considered when creating a customised viola string combination that requires warmth and projection in the middle register.
The specified 37.5 cm refers to the vibrating string length between the nut and bridge, not the instrument's body length. Remove rosin dust using a soft, dry cloth and ensure the string sits correctly in the nut and bridge grooves.
Please note: this product contains one individual viola D string. The complete four-string set has article number DP200.
