YBRATO SweetSpot Ligature is a professional alto saxophone ligature featuring an innovative three-dimensionally adjustable lever (3D lever). Developed in Germany, it allows players to adjust the effective reed stiffness, pressure-point position and reed-clamping symmetry without changing the reed itself.
The SweetSpot is available in separate versions for hard rubber (ebonite) and metal alto saxophone mouthpieces. Please select the appropriate version when ordering.
What makes the SweetSpot different?
Unlike a conventional ligature that primarily holds the reed in place, the YBRATO SweetSpot allows targeted adjustments to the reed's vibration conditions near its active playing area.
The central feature is a specially designed adjustable lever. By changing its position along three dimensions, musicians can fine-tune the pressure and its distribution, adapting the reed's behaviour to their mouthpiece and individual embouchure.
According to YBRATO, the mechanism can improve response, intonation, dynamic control and the seal between the underside of the reed and the mouthpiece. Actual results depend on the individual setup and adjustment.
SweetSpot key feature: the three-dimensionally adjustable lever enables fine adjustment of effective reed stiffness and the pressure-point position. Players can adapt response and playing feel without replacing their reed. Patent pending (application no. 10 2025 002 755.9).
Three adjustment possibilities
1. Tone Color. Moving the pressure point along the reed helps explore different tonal colours and response characteristics. YBRATO refers to this adjustment as Sleigh Mode.
2. Intensity Control. The adjustable lever changes the effective playing resistance of the reed. This can expand the range of usable reeds and make new or stronger reeds easier to play.
3. Asymmetric Positioning. The mechanism allows pressure to be distributed asymmetrically across the reed. This can help adapt the setup to individual differences in lip and tooth positioning.
Construction and manufacturing
The SweetSpot combines its 3D adjustment lever with precision-machined metal components. The design includes a CNC-milled reed guide and a left-hand/right-hand threaded clamping mechanism for even attachment.
The ligature band features a rolled and mechanically screwed construction without soldered joints, supporting precise assembly.
The SweetSpot is developed and manufactured in Germany. Its components are precision-machined and hand-assembled in Munich.

Mouthpiece selection and compatibility
The SweetSpot Ligature for alto saxophone is offered in two versions:
- Hard Rubber / Ebonite — for hard rubber mouthpieces, including many Selmer, Meyer and Vandoren models.
- Metal — for metal alto saxophone mouthpieces.
Please select the appropriate version when ordering. Fit depends on the specific mouthpiece dimensions and shape.
Please note: the SweetSpot mechanism changes the effective playing stiffness and response of the reed, not its physical thickness or original strength rating. Contact us if you need assistance choosing the correct mouthpiece version.
