YBRATO SweetSpot Ligature is a professional adjustable tenor saxophone ligature designed and manufactured in Germany. Its distinctive feature is a three-dimensionally adjustable lever (3D lever) that allows musicians to modify effective reed stiffness, pressure-point position and clamping-pressure distribution without replacing the reed.
The ligature is available in separate versions for hard rubber (ebonite) and metal tenor saxophone mouthpieces. Please select the appropriate version when ordering.
How does SweetSpot work?
A conventional ligature secures the reed against the mouthpiece. The YBRATO SweetSpot additionally allows musicians to adjust the reed's vibration conditions by controlling pressure in an area that influences the flexible part of the reed.
The specially designed lever changes the position and distribution of pressure. This enables players to adjust perceived resistance, response and tonal characteristics to suit their mouthpiece, reed and individual playing technique.
According to YBRATO, the mechanism can improve response, intonation, tone and dynamic control while creating a better seal between the underside of the reed and the mouthpiece.
Actual results depend on the individual reed, mouthpiece, instrument and adjustment settings.
SweetSpot key feature: the three-dimensionally adjustable lever allows players to modify effective reed stiffness, pressure-point position and asymmetric clamping. This provides additional control over reed response without replacing the reed. Patent pending, application no. 10 2025 002 755.9.
Three adjustment possibilities
1. Tone Color. Sleigh Mode allows the pressure point to move along the reed, offering different tonal colours and response characteristics according to the manufacturer.
2. Intensity Control. Adjusting the lever changes the effective playing stiffness of the reed. This can make stronger reeds more comfortable and simplify breaking in new reeds. YBRATO highlights a particularly noticeable effect in the low and high registers of the saxophone.
3. Asymmetric Positioning. The mechanism allows pressure distribution to be adjusted across the width of the reed, helping players adapt the setup to individual differences in embouchure, lip and tooth positioning.
Construction and materials
The SweetSpot combines its 3D adjustment lever with precision-machined metal components. The reed guide is CNC-milled for accurate positioning.
A clamping mechanism with left-hand and right-hand threads ensures even tightening and accurate placement on the mouthpiece.
The ligature band is rolled and mechanically screwed without soldered joints. The construction supports precise adjustment when fitting or replacing reeds.
YBRATO ligatures are designed and manufactured in Germany and hand-assembled in Munich.

Mouthpiece selection and compatibility
The YBRATO SweetSpot Ligature for tenor saxophone is available in two versions:
- Hard Rubber / Ebonite — for hard rubber mouthpieces, including many Selmer, Meyer and Vandoren models.
- Metal — for metal tenor saxophone mouthpieces.
The versions differ in size and are not universally interchangeable. Please select the appropriate mouthpiece type before placing your order.
Please note: SweetSpot changes the effective playing stiffness of the reed, not its physical thickness or manufacturer's strength rating. Ligature compatibility depends on the dimensions and shape of the specific mouthpiece. Please contact us if you need assistance.
